The invitations issued by the Meri Foundation, under the auspices of Rudaw Media Group, to host public figures, academics and those with an interest in Kurdish affairs—particularly the Kurdish cause in Syria—should be based on the principles of inclusivity and balance, and should encompass the various Kurdish political parties, foremost among them the Kurdish National Council and other political parties and forces, without selectivity or exclusion.
Ignoring a major political party that has a presence and plays a role in representing the aspirations of our Kurdish people sends negative messages to Kurdish public opinion and does not serve a united stance or responsible dialogue. If the aim is academic and scientific, it is only right that invitations should be comprehensive and balanced, and that they should allow scope for diverse Kurdish perspectives and interpretations.
Whilst we appreciate the attention and follow-up given to this matter by the Barzani headquarters, and the commitment it has shown to rectifying this shortcoming, we emphasise that the Kurdish cause is too broad to be reduced to a single party, and that serving our people requires respect for political pluralism and ensuring the participation of all, free from exclusion and marginalisation.
